The Guild of St. George, Inc.

Teaching History Through Interactive Theater

The Elizabethan Age
A rising sun shining across gentle green hills,
A great sailing ship driving before the wind across unknown seas,
Tables groaning under piles of the finest food on gold platters,
Wood and plaster buildings rising high above narrow streets,
The bells of a country church ringing joyously to welcome a new day,
A hundred Lords and Ladies in sumptuous clothes dancing across marble floors,
A thousand people crowding into a circular courtyard to catch the latest play,
A glorious queen speaking before her loving people.

These and a thousand other scenes are part of the magic and romance of Elizabethan England; magic and romance that is brought vividly to life by the Guild of St. George.  Beyond books, beyond movies, beyond the stage, the Guild of St. George uses the art of interactive theater to re-create the pageantry, color, and people of the past, and to put you in the middle of it all.  Whether as a member of our costumed company or a wandering guest, all who come in contact with the Guild of St. George participate in the world that the guild creates and experience life as it once was.

The guild specializes in presenting the people and events of Elizabethan England.  This romantic and important era witnessed the first English colonies in America, the establishment of English sea power, and the flowering of English poetry, drama, and music. The events of this period are a common heritage between the American and English people and fundamentally shaped the development and culture of the United States.  Today when the events, ideas, and passions of these times seem increasingly distant, the Guild of St. George brings these people and their age vividly to life through uncompromising dedication to historical accuracy and theatrical excellence.
